The Doors are overrated.

There are so many things wrong with Jim Morrison and company (most of their problems are on prominent display in the song “The End”). One of the reasons why I can’t stand classic rock radio is because of their insistence to play crap like “Light My Fire” and “Break On Through” all the damn time.

With that, I do think that there are some really great songs by The Doors. Not many, but a few. So, I’m going to rank the best songs from The Doors (and maybe I’ll say why I think they are the best in some future post. Maybe).

“Peace Frog”

“Soul Kitchen”

“Back Door Man”

“The Crystal Ship”

“People are Strange”

And “20th Century Fox” isn’t bad either. But it’s not that great either.

He never broke character the entire time. This was one of Stewart’s best.

songsthataregoodsez:Fugazi live is very difficult to listen to for someone who has never experienced it firsthand. The constant wiping-away of tears distracts from appreciating the music, and the wails of grief really makes it hard to hear in the first place. Nonetheless (after the uncontrollable sobbing subsides), jumping around your living room in your underwear, screaming “YOU ARE NOT WHAT YOU OOOWWWWNN” has it’s own special charm.

Um, you’ll never look at your innards the same way again.

In 1926, Fritz Kahn created the poster “Man As Industrial Palace.” as was appropriate for the Art Deco era, he depicted the human body as a factory run by little workers processing food, moving blood, and pumping engines. Henning Lederer took this idea and turned it into an animated short. From a promotional brochure for the film:

The visual crossover between industrialization and science in Fritz Kahn’s artwork demonstrates surprisingly accurately how human nature became culturally encoded by placing the knowledge in an industrial modernity of machine analogues. He produced lots of illustrations that drew a direct functional analogy between human physiology and the operation of contemporary technologies. Therefore, by illustrating the body as a factory, Kahn was able to relate the body’s complex organic interior to the industrialized space so common in society during that period of time (the poster was created in 1926).

reasons i love this version:

adam’s drumming.
this is one of their last shows, but you’d never know it. they’re playing like their hearts are on fucking fire.
the hilarious kid who starts humming off-key near the end of the track. even though there’s nearly a minute of just filler between this and the song actually ending, i will always wait for it.
